The pollution of the Rivers, especially in urban areas, has taken dimensions difficult to imagine. Our concept – the “Safisha Days” has been proven effective and simple: Teaming up with the Counties, we remove solid waste and debris in the most severely affected focal points: in impoverished areas with a high density of population. Also here, community participation and the creation of public awareness is paramount. A large number of volunteers, consisting i. a. of local women groups, youth groups and socially disadvantaged people, is properly equipped and assist us in this often overwhelming task. Medical assistance is given free of charge as well as refreshments.
The removed solid waste is, to the extent possible, separated and given to local dealers. We are likewise focusing on the prevention of further pollution by providing, to the extent possible and with the assistance of the counties, large containers for solid waste. Watch this space in the future, as we are planning to have one Safisha Day (clean-up day) a month in different urban areas...
